Greetings from the Office of the Principal at exactly 6:41 AM on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, ready to greet another great month! February was filled with excitement around the Damien campus. The month started off with our 12th Annual Damien Hall of Fame Dinner on February 12th. Dr. Steve Bast, Fr. Bill Moore SS.CC., and our very own Dean of Students Mr. Ron Castillo were this years inductees. Congratulations gentlemen on this great honor!
Our soccer and basketball teams ended their excellent regular seasons. Although our varsity soccer team was eliminated in the first round of CIF playoffs with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss, it was still a season to remember as they improved tremendously from last year. All the players, Coach McElrea, and his staff should be commended on a job well done!
Our varsity basketball team had another outstanding season, making the semifinals in CIF playoffs for an unprecedented 3rd year straight! Although they lost a tough one to Harvard-Westlake 59-56 to get knocked out of the playoffs, hopefully they will be able to qualify for the State Championships. Our players again showed Spartan pride as they played their hearts out all season long. Congrats to all the players and Coach Dunn and his assistant coaches on a wonderful season.
This week we have our last senior Kairos retreat of the year. The school year for seniors is coming to an end very quickly! Our 45th Annual St. Monica's Guild Fashion Show will be held on Saturday, March 19th at the Pacific Palms Resort in Industry Hills at 11 AM. It is a tremendous event and a big fundraiser for the school. If you are interested in going please contact Xochilt Montalvo at 909-229-9294.
Our Spring Play, Fools, by Neil Simon, will be on Friday, Saturday and Sunday March 25-27th at Pomona Catholic High School. Show times are 4 PM and 7 PM on Friday and Saturday, and 1 PM and 4 PM on Sunday. Please come out and support our thespians!
