Damien High School

The win puts Damien at 1-0, while Diamond Ranch fell to 0-2. The Panthers led 12-7 at halftime but found little offense for most of the second half.

In the meantime, Damien relied on its running game, special teams and an advantageous defense. Damien used a good punt return by Dorian Granados to convert a short drive into points on James Ramirez's 4-yard touchdown run. The Spartans failed on the two-point conversion but led 13-12.

The Panthers went nowhere on offense, and soon Damien was threatening again. Ramirez capped a 41-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown. Diamond Ranch was kept in the game, though, when the Spartans missed the extra point.

Congratulations to Spartans Ben Lopez and James Thornton on their award winning essays. Ben and James participated in the Schubmehl-Prein Competition put on by the University of Notre Dame Dept of Computer Science. Ben and James placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively.  This marks the 5th year in a row that Damien students have earned awards in this annual essay contest for high school juniors.

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! As we enter another academic calendar year, many exciting things are happening at Damien High School.  My name is Sam Pearsall, 1982 Damien graduate, and I am the school’s new Principal.

As many of you are aware, Fr. Pat Travers, SS.CC., our Principal for thirty years, is now the school President.  His school responsibilities will include being the school’s spiritual leader, oversee finances, fundraising, marketing and community relations, and act as CEO of the school’s Consultative Board.  He will also continue to direct the Tijuana Mission Outreach.

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks today announced that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has added five additional teams and three new schools to the Anaheim Ducks High School Hockey League for the 2010-11 season. Among the additions, Servite High School (Anaheim), Damien High School (La Verne) and Lutheran High School of Orange County (Orange) will join Santa Margarita Catholic High (Santa Margarita) and JSerra Catholic High (San Juan Capistrano) for the 2010-11 high school season.
