December greetings from the Principal's Office! As we move into the Christmas season I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break with friends and family.

Congratulations to Coach Gano and the Varsity Football team as they made it to the CIF playoffs. It was a great season, and we are looking forward to continued improvement next year. Also, a "shout out" is in order for Coach Miller and our Varsity Water Polo squad, as they made the CIF Finals again this year. And finally, our Cross Country team qualified for the state tournament and placed 8th. Great job Coach Williams and all of our Spartan runners!

Our Annual Invitational Golf Tournament at Red Hill Country Club was a huge success. We raised over $50,000 for our sports program. Thanks go out to Coach Al Leyva and everyone else who set up this wonderful tournament. Our annual Auction Dinner Dance was also a success, raising over $30,000 for the school. Thanks to Mrs. Monica Hyland and Mrs. Margaret Banks for making the night happen!

Thirty  Feed One Hundred Fifty

Not quite the numbers Jesus produced, but a very fine start to Damien's 1st Annual Operation Thanksgiving held November 23. Under the command of Ms. Sternquist, Ms. Provanzano, Ms. Carlson, and Ms. Vitiello, 25 Spartan students helped turn our regular Wednesday Hot Meal feeding into a Thanksgiving miracle. Four turkeys and all the fixings were donated and prepared in our very own Activities Center kitchen, then boxed up and delivered locally to homeless and low income communities.

Due to the huge success, plans are underway for Operation Christmas, Wednesday, December 21st. Please contact Ms. Sternquist or Mr. Patten to donate or volunteer. A photo gallery of the event can be seen on Facebook:

IRVINE - It wasn't beating Palos Verdes 10-8 in Wednesday's CIF-Southern Section Division III boys water polo semifinals that was the most impressive part of Damien's afternoon at the William Woollett Aquatics Center.

It was how the Spartans did it.

Damien (24-6) outscored Palos Verdes 5-1 in the fourth quarter to advance to Saturday morning's championship game against defending champion Laguna Beach. It will be a rematch of last season's title matchup.

The Spartans took an early 2-0 lead when Connor Farris and Austin Miller scored goals.

Students at Damien High School in La Verne, including members of the football team, have teamed up with Sowing Seeds for Life, a charity founded by Glendora resident Vicki Bown, to raise money to feed the needy and also collect toys to be distributed to underprivileged children.

Damien students put on two “taco lunch” fundraisers last month that together raised $1,200 and later organized a toy drive that began with Damien’s football game against Ayala of Chino Hills on Nov. 9.

The toy drive will continue through Nov. 18 (drop-offs at the school are welcomed). It will hopefully provide
