Greetings from the Principal’s Office! The school year has begun without a hitch, with many activities and sports to keep everybody busy! Our football team has started strong with a 3-1 record as of Oct. 4. We start league play on Oct. 14th at Claremont. Our cross country team finished 1st in the Sierra League cluster meet (see website). And our ice hockey team destroyed Bishop Amat 12-0 on Oct. 1st! Great job Spartans!!
The administration met with our new parents at the beginning of Sept. to discuss our total school program. Special thanks to Matt Dunn and Debbie Rosas for making those evenings so successful. St. Monica’s Guild had their Welcome Tea on Sunday, Sept. 18th. Thanks as usual to Margaret Banks and all of the mothers that planned that special event. On Sept. 20th I took a few students and faculty to the LA Catholic Prayer Breakfast at Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral downtown. Even though we had to leave campus at 5 AM (you should have seen the condition of Mr. Nolte) it was a prayerful and wonderful experience. One thing is for sure, our guys love breakfast burritos!!

The Sierra League held its first cross country cluster meet of the season on Tuesday with Ayala leading the girls and Damien taking first for the boys over the five-kilometer course at Bonelli Park in San Dimas. Ayala senior Chandler Colquitt won the girls race by 23 seconds, finishing in 19:03, well ahead of second-place finisher Merin Arft from Claremont (19:26), who held off third-place finisher Alex Borunda (19:27) from South Hills. Ayala and South Hills finished first and second respectively in the girls standings. Ayala finished with three top ten finishers and the Huskies four -- giving the schools eight of the top ten finishers between them.
Damien held off second-place Ayala in the boys standings behind a strong effort from Spartans senior Tom Ebiner, who won in 15:54, with teammate Douglas Negrete finishing second in 16:07. With Spartans junior Conor Brandt (16:30) finishing fifth, the Spartans had three runners in the top five.
FYI: Mission Valley and Valle Vista boys and girls cluster meets are at Bonelli Park in San Dimas today. The Montview League cluster meet is at Schabarum Park in Rowland Heights on Thursday.
