Damien High School

The New Year at Damien High School begins on Monday January 7th at the regular time. Students will follow their first semester schedule on Monday only. They can learn their grades from the first semester. Students who have changes in schedules for the second semester will receive them as well. Starting Tuesday, students will follow the second semester schedule.

We also want to note that the security entrance gate to Damien during the school day has been moved from the gate on Bonita Avenue to the gate on Damien Avenue. This will make it more convenient for those having school business in the 600 building (home of athletics and counseling as well as the Deans' office) where most of the traffic was headed. It also reduces the number of automobiles driving across campus during class time.

O Come, O Come Emmanuel. Come into the hearts and lives of all our family and friends at Damien High School. May the joy and realization that the God who created us came and walked among us, fill our hearts with child-like wonder at this special time set aside to remember the life-giving events of so many years ago.

May the busy moments of our lives the rest of the year never overshadow the gift of blessings that we receive at this time of the year so that we can be truly grateful for all the joys we have to celebrate.

Just a reminder that the Damien High School office is closed these weeks to allow our dedicated staff the opportunity to enjoy special times with their own families and friends. We will re-open January 7, 2013.

COVINA - Chalk up another squeaker for the Damien High School basketball team in the 59th Annual Covina Christmas tournament Friday night at Covina High.

After a three-point overtime victory over Northview in the quarterfinals on Thursday, the Spartans came from behind early and defeated California, 59-54, on Friday in a semifinal game to advance to their second straight tournament championship game.

Trailing by five, 55-50, with 34 seconds remaining in the game, California senior guard Andrew Garber tossed in a floater from short range to bring the Condors within one possession, 55-52, but couldn't stop sophomore guard Jeremy Hemsley on a length-of-the-floor drive for a layup.

That gave the Spartans a 57-52 advantage, and each team traded baskets to end the game.

Damien, which defeated J.W. North in last year's title game, will face the winner of the Covina/Rowland semifinal tonight at 8:30.

California, which fell to 9-5, will face the loser of the Rowland/Covina game tonight for third place at 7 p.m.

The Spartans, who were the preseason top-ranked team in the CIF-Southern Section Division 3AA, improved their record to 10-4.

“As you are aware tomorrow is December 21, 2012, that coupled with other recent events in Connecticut has some parents and students concerned about their safety.  We have had some calls by parents wanting to know if anything is going to be done by the Police Department to ensure the safety of students.  In light of the recent events in Connecticut and the heightened tension felt by the students and parents alike, we are providing one officer per school to provide extra patrol during the school hours tomorrow (12-21-12).  The officer will be in uniform and will be at the location for the duration of the day until school lets out.  Their purpose is to be highly visible throughout the campus.  The officer will check in with the office in the morning and will remain on campus until the end of the school day when students leave.    We hope this will alleviate some concerns for both the parents and students and upon returning to school after the New Year there will be a different and more positive upbeat feeling by all.   Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!”
