What is the Million Dollar School Challenge?

The Catholic Education Fund (CEF) Board of Trustees approved additional endowment spending and $1 million dollars in matching grants has been put aside to challenge Catholic schools to help raise funds to clear all the students who are currently on their CEF waitlist. These are students who are still waiting for a tuition award. They need your help to receive a CEF tuition award or they may have to withdraw from their Catholic school. CEF will match all your donations made to Damien High School to help families in need keep their sons enrolled.

How does it work?

Example: For each student on our waiting list for financial assistance it will require $7,600 to fund them. Damien would need to raise $3,800 and CEF will match it 1:1.

It is with sadness that we report the passing of two Damien graduates, Cliff Viernes and Otoniel DeCasas.

Cliff Viernes, class of 1986, passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2012. The recitation of the rosary and vigil for Cliff will be held at Forest Lawn, Covina from 6 pm to 9 pm on November 27. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on November 28, 2012 at Holy Name of Mary, San Dimas. Internment will follow at Forest Lawn.

Otoniel DeCasas, class of 2009 Passed away on October 31, 2012. The viewing of Otoniel's mortal remains will be at Holy Name of Mary Church, San Dimas from 12:00 to 3:00 on Thursday afternoon, November 15. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am on Friday, November 16 at Holy Name of Mary, San Dimas.

Let us be prayerfully and lovingly joined in commending our graduates Cliff and Otoniel to the loving light and embrace of Our Lord Himself, in whom we all "live and move and have our being." Let us also keep in our prayers the families and loved ones of Cliff and Otoniel, that they may be blessed with peace and strength in dealing with the challenge of their grief. Eternal rest grant unto Cliff and Otoniel, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine on them. May they rest in peace. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed through the loving mercy of God, rest in peace.

For the 5th season in a row and the 12th in 13 years, the Damien water polo team has advanced to the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section playoffs.

Trevor Adkins, Travis Carnochan and Stephen Osterberg scored two goals apiece as Damien High School held off fourth-seeded Foothill of Santa Ana, 6-5, in a CIF-Southern Section Division 2 quarterfinal game at Pomona College on Saturday.

Kyle Garwick made 14 saves for Damien.

What a wonderful time we had last evening at the Black and White Gala. Once again it was great to meet so many of you. Thank you for the support. It was certainly a social success and we look forward to seeing how well we did financially. Our greatest appreciation all who helped organize the event, especially the chairs Mrs. Michelle Clark and Mrs. Susan Della Guistina.

Catholic Education Foundation applications for financial aid for the 2013-2014 school year are available on-line. If you will be asking for financial assistance next school year you need to apply for this assistance first before Damien funds will be considered. The Catholic Education Foundation is the primary source of our financial aid.
